Hello CIMSA!
SCORA CIMSA FK UNRI successfully carried out BREATH (Breast and Cervical Cancer: Be Aware of Facts and Myths) to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which was celebrated in October month. BREATH was held on Saturday, November 18th 2023, at SMP Santa Maria Pekanbaru. This Project aims to increase the knowledge and awareness of school students about breast and cervical cancer.
Breast cancer and cervical cancer are the types of cancer with the highest prevalence and mortality rates in women. Therefore, every year in October, people all around the world commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month as an effort to increase public awareness of breast cancer. In celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month, SCORA CIMSA UNRI carried out several activities. The first activity was SCORA CIMSA UNRI, inviting all Riau University medical faculty students to wear pink clothes together and distribute pink ribbons, a universal symbol of awareness and support for breast cancer patients. Apart from that, on the same day, SCORA CIMSA UNRI also held a quiz for students about myths and facts about breast cancer and cervical cancer. Not only celebrating on campus, but SCORA CIMSA UNRI had the opportunity to celebrate it even more massively via radio. Grace Desvia represented Scora CIMSA UNRI, and Najmi Khairussyifa was a Radio Republik Indonesia speaker.
Before BREATH was held, OC had received training from PETRA, namely Najmi Khairussyifa, who was talking and discussing breast cancer and the stigma towards it. This training was held on Wednesday, October 18th 2023, at 8.00 PM. After getting the exercise, the OC’s already prepared to conduct the last activity, BREATH. In this event, SCORA CIMSA UNRI invited Dr. Jojor Sihotang Sp.OG, M.Ked.Klin. as the speaker. This event is not only about material delivery but also focuses on teaching self-examination (SADARI) with a presentation from an expert doctor. SCORA CIMSA UNRI hopes that people’s awareness and knowledge will increase through this activity, so the mortality rates in Indonesia will decrease.
